With sweeping views of the Gulf of Mexico, this historic property is the ideal seaside vacation destination for families.

Oasis Resort Gulfport is centrally located in the small beach town of Gulfport along the Mississippi coast. The Mississippi Coast is often known as the Secret Coast of the United States, as many people don’t realize that the state is home to a gorgeous coastline of charming beach towns.

Oasis Resort is located at 200 E Beach Blvd, Gulfport, MS 39507 in Harrison County. Its location makes it the ideal home base to explore the nearby beach towns and even take a few day trips to nearby cities like New Orleans, Mobile or Gulf Shores.

Gulfport is a 90-minute drive from New Orleans and just over a two-hour drive to Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Malibu Beach Oasis

Upon entering Centennial Plaza, one quickly realizes that this was not always a resort. A historical marker indicates Centennial Plaza as the designated site for the state’s centennial celebration in 1917. However, the “Mississippi Centennial Exposition” celebration never took place due to the onset of World War I.

As the scale of the global conflict consumed the nation and the Spanish flu pandemic ravaged the country, Mississippi’s centennial celebration receded into history. The site was turned over to the war effort for military training and later became the Veterans Administration Medical Center – Gulfport Division.

The Veterans Administration Medical Center closed its doors in 2005 after damage from Hurricane Katrina. The site underwent a $100 million redevelopment and reopened in 2019 as Centennial Plaza.

A main reason why so many families flock to Oasis Resort is Centennial Plaza’s 3-acre water playground. The water park is one of the best facilities and is only reserved for guests at the Oasis Resort and Grand Centennial Hotel.

Fun in the sun comes in many ways at the water playground. The zero entry seasonal outdoor pool has a pool bar. Slide down water slides, float along the lazy river or let the children cool off in the colorful splash pad.

My daughter loved hoping in the lazy river and then would venture down some of the smaller slides designed for her. Her only complaint was the dumping bucket since she doesn’t like them!

Oasis Grill has a walk-up window where guests can order a large selection of entrees and snacks without having to leave the water playground.

Before staying at the Oasis Resort, an important fact is that the beach is right across the street. To get to Gulfport Beach, cross E Beach Blvd.

Family Friendly Coastal Oasis At Lost Key Beach Club

There is nothing but sandy beaches after you cross the street. So come prepared with a proper beach bag or portable cart to help you transport your gear.

Tip: We often packed up the car and drove to a parking lot by the beach, so we didn’t have to drag all our beach gear across the parking lot and the street.

A unique feature of Oasis Resort is that in addition to traditional hotel rooms that have king and queen-size beds, they offer child-friendly rooms. The children’s suite is designed to give parents and children their own rooms.

The Kids Oasis section of the suite is a special space with bunk beds, a TV, a bean bag chair and an organizer for clothes and toys. Night lights and smart device chargers are on a switch for each berth!

Parents can stretch out and relax in The Parent’s Paradise on the other side of the partition to the Kids Oasis. A comfortable king-size bed, flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, free wifi and sofa offer a perfect retreat at the end of a busy day.

My daughter made herself at home by putting all her things in the organizer, stuffies by the bean bag chair, and often retreated to her room after a long day of exploring. It allowed her to have a place to take a break from everything and relax.

Note: Kids Oasis is technically not a room as the partition does not touch the ceiling, nor is there a door. We had to keep the lights dim, and the TV turned down low; otherwise it would disturb our daughter.

The Oasis Grill is a great dining option for families staying on the property. With casual eateries for breakfast, lunch and dinner, guests are sure to find something tasty on the menu.

One of the things we didn’t expect was a full coffee shop inside the Oasis Grill. Even if you do not plan to eat in the restaurant, guests can have a cup of coffee. Stop by in the morning for a mocha latte or espresso.

Take time during your visit to slow down by admiring the dancing fountain at night. Grab a bench nearby and let your mind wander as you gaze into the starry night with the playful fountains dancing in the background.

The primary bedroom has a plush king size bed with mattress topper and en-suite bathroom. Watch a movie on the Roku TV in the middle bedroom with two luxurious XL mattresses – extremely comfortable for both adults and children. Or enjoy undisturbed forest views from the front bedroom with a luxurious king-size bed. Do you need more space to sleep? The sofa in the living room opens to a queen sleeper with a gel comfort mattress.

Have a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening and retreat to the quiet covered veranda in the shelter of the forest. From the Adirondack chairs, admire the old stumps directly across the trail while listening to the soothing sounds of birds chirping and the gentle lapping of ocean waves.

We loved everything about this place! The owners have thought of everything to make this place feel like home. It is directly across the street from the pool and weight room. But the hot tub right outside the back door is even better than the one by the pool. The house’s layout allows for a lot of alone time or all the togetherness you want. I loved sitting on the front porch drinking my coffee, reading my devotionals and then curling up with a book, occasionally looking up to enjoy the view of the beautiful forest.
